On June 19, 2020, SMP Law posted a video called "Wills and Covid-19" and described how we could do a virtual witnessing of wills and powers of attorney. As of February 16, 2021, it appears that the Government of Ontario is proposing amendments to virtual wills and power of attorney.

SMP Law likes to share blog posts that reinforce the importance of having a will and doing your estate planning. However, when estate planning with a blended family there are other issues that need to be considered. 

Figuring out how to handle our estate after we pass away is a difficult subject.  Many people do not have wills and avoid even thinking about their plans and wishes after they die - although here at SMP Law we highly recommend you do your planning.

It has become more frequent for a parent to remove a child from their will after a heated argument. As such, litigation can occur because the child(ren) argue the new will does not state the parent’s true intention(s).
