Since it is Black History Month, SMP Law wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the importance of this month as we honour the central role in history that people of colour have played.

As stated in my previous blogs such as SMP Law – Black History Month, I like to remind everyone that Black history should be celebrated all year long and not just for one month.

This year, the Government of Canada has titled 2024 Black History Month with a theme of “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build”.

With this theme in mind, SMP Law would encourage everyone to continue to educate yourselves and raise awareness to key contributions of people of colour. One key resource is the Ontario Black History Society which is dedicated to the study, preservation and promotion of Black History and heritage. Another informational resource is History, which elaborates on the origins of Black History Month, the 2024 theme and offers photo galleries.
